Strength is one of the most rewarding melee combat skills in Runescape. I makes you hit harder and damage more and and can be really useful in pvp Worlds.

Attack gives you more chance to hit the opponent.
Strength lets you damage more.
Defense makes it harder for other players to damage you.

For free users, I would recommend you to be mixed (shared exp so your attack, strength and defense will be on the same level) until your attack, strength and defense. If you have not done dragon slayer, by a rune chain mail, rune plate legs, rune full helm, rune kite shield and a single handed rune weapon of your choice. Now start to focus more on your strength, after your combat level gets to 50, you should complete the quest dragon slayer so you can wear rune plate body. I would suggest to keep on focusing on your strength and a bit on attack, this way you will be a lot stronger.

Training strong can be really hard and also boring, but once you can damage more, training will get a lot easier. It takes a lot of time and patience to get to level 99 strength, it is better if you follow a guide to help you with your training. There are a lot of different ways to train for members and free users, but here is probably the easiest and fastest way.

Free to play Combat:

level 3 - 30: Starting off, I would recommend you to kill cows. This is an easy way to train your combat. Go and to the Lumbridge cow farm. kill the cows and bury their bones. You can also cook their meat to train cooking or take the hide, which is worth a lot a money and can also be used for crafting.

level 30 - 40: A good way to train now is kill Al Karid guards in the Al Karid Castle. They are not too strong and will gang up on you, its a good way to multitask train, but be careful because you might die and loose some of your items.
Another good way to train is to kill dwarfs at the Dwarf Mine.
Killing dark wizards is also a good way to train. They will auto attack you so it is a good way to multitask. But these wizards can deal quite a lot of damage to metal armor, so be careful.
Killing level 13 zombies is a good way. They can be found in the Varrock Sewers.

level 40 - 50: A good way now is to kill hill giants, they can be found at the Edgeville Dungeon, just get a brass key and unlock the door in a house at the west of the cooking guild. Go down the ladder and the giant will be there.
Killing level 28 hobgoblins can help you train too.

Level 50-60: The best method now is to kill jail guards. Take 3 items with
