Poetry: Don't let the moment pass

by Edward Earl

Created on: July 09, 2009

I see her perched upon the threshold

A baby bird about to leave the nest

Into a world so harsh and cold

Each day filled with a new life test

My mind rewinds to blinkies and diapers

Bedtime stories and toothless grins

Animated dinosaurs, lions and tigers

Childhood games that she'd cheat to win

I remember all her wins and losses

The miles of malls that we have trod

Hamburgers with no cheese and chocolate malteds

The day she gave her heart to God

My firstborn daughter, the selfish child

The spankings now are oh so real

Adulthood can be a ride so wild

But remember the pains will always heal

I know you will be leaving, I know you can

I just don't want it to be so fast

Stay here a little longer, hold my hand,

don't let the moment pass
