Money has become an addiction. It controls people. Years ago there were systems to survive, that did not depend totally on money. The "Bartering System" , worked well for most purposes. A doctor would make a house call, and get paid with a chicken, or produce. Whatever the family could afford to trade, for the doctors services.
The poor depended on the bartering system to survive. Any skill, talent, domestic service, or food items, could be traded for something that was needed. The problem with our system today, is that we have become so spoiled, that we have come to see our "wants," as our needs. The bartering system has been replaced by the "love" of money. Money has power, and privilege. We believe it gives us freedom. In reality, the more we depend on money, the more we become slaves to it.
Money controls most people. We all think that money is so important, that we can not live without it. To some degree, this holds true. People were expected to pay taxes, way before the birth of Christ . Those who are homeless, and have no access to any money, are free from having to pay any taxes on income. They do not have to pay taxes on property of any kind, because they don't own anything.
Many people now days are so addicted to materialism, that they work two jobs to fulfill the American Dream. Children are left home alone, to care for themselves, until parents get home from work. Years ago, there was no such thing as "Latch key kids." Now it is a common situation. Money comes before family.
With all the new technologies, like cell phones, computers, ipods, and gadgets of every kind; people become programmed into thinking that all these things are needed, and more important to get, then to spend time with their families. Money is needed to buy all these things, so family is neglected in order to earn the money to get them.
Children are also caught up in the chaos of seeking ways to make money. Young people get caught up in the drug world, believing it will get them all the earthly things they desire. They lust for the things that the rich have. The desire of materialism pulls them away from family life. The lure of money becomes an obsession that leads them to disaster. The prisons are full of people who sought to profit by getting money, any way they could. It led them to crime, and prison.
Family is left behind to suffer the consequences. Our addiction to the things we want, instead of what we need, often leads us to neglect our families to chase after the money.
