Once you accepted the position as a manager or a leader, you are accepting that responsibility with a package. You are now partially responsible; together with the other management team to lead employees to achieve the organization's objectives and goals.
The next question, "How are you going to lead your people?" There are many styles of leading people; you can choose the best way that fit your style. You can also lead your people either using an 'express' or 'implied' methods.
In today's modern and contemporary management style; the 'implied' methods will be more effective to your people, you lead without forcing or pushing. This style is more like self-awareness. People observed, if they like you, your style or actions and you have that respected, trustworthy, charismatic value in you, they will follow you. 'Leading by example' is an example of the 'implied' method of which would be the next best method if done effectively.
As a leader, you have been set indirectly to be an example or role-model to the employees in your organization. Either you are a good or bad example; people are looking at you. Generally, you are representing management as a whole. Being in that position, you have no choice but to show a good example and the best way is; just be your real good self.
You must have a positive attitude, an intelligent mind in handling problems and able to accept difficulties as challenges. You must never lose your temper especially in front of your people. You must be firm, calm and professional when dealing with your people and others customers including your internal customers. Use your intellectual and knowledge to solve your people's problems. Be flexible and never break any set rules or written policy. Respect your people as how you wanted them to respect you. Trust them as much as you wanted them to trust you.
Listen more and talk less. Be friendly but ensure your people know their border. Be part of the team. Create and develop sense of belonging. Praise them when necessary as well as reprimand them when needed.
Take special care to your overall appearance and your body language. It is like your moving advertisement. Be smart, be professional. People naturally like to mirror their leader or wanted to be like the person they admired. Don't overly self praise, do it with credibility. Let people judged. As people observed and talked, there are others who listened. If more people admire you, your leadership style, your charismatic, intellectual, appearance and professionalism, the more they wanted to be like you. To them you are a successful person and their mentor. If you have gained their trust and respect, slowly instill more of a positive image, positive working style and positive attitude. But remember; show them an example!
Don't worry; people will definitely follow you as they too wanted to be respected, trusted, being a role model and admired like you! Just remember, actions speak louder than words.
