Judging Michael Jackson

by Vicki Phipps

Created on: July 08, 2009

Judging Michael Jackson would be a useless thing to do, considering that most of us have never met the King of Pop. Although most people think they know more than they actually do, a jury of his peers found him to be not guilty of any crime, so why would you also judge that jury or accuse them of being blind, just because they don't agree with what you think? You can say he's strange. You can call him a freak, but the words you use to identify the man would be a relative thing, related to what you choose to believe.

You might be a little strange if you were mobbed by a crowd every time you walked into a room. You'd feel like a freak too if people screamed at the sight of you. As for being a sexual deviant, he was found to be not guilty of anything but fame and being strange, so when it comes to Michael Jackson, maybe we need to judge his life based on the facts that we can actually prove to be the truth. He's been praised and credited for changing lives by men like Nelson Mandela and even Martin Luther King's children claim that he made their mother smile the day she died.

There's a price to be paid for fame, but considering the way he entertained us all his life, I'd say Michael Jackson deserves a break. Besides, he died. Hasn't he already paid the ultimate price? What kind of freak would you be if you'd never experienced childhood? If you'd worked day and night since the age of five, you might try to recreate what you missed, like Michael Jackson did.

The truth is that no one had more talent than he did. No one danced like him and no one touched more souls or played more roles. Not one of us gave more of ourselves than Michael Jackson did, but for decades of his life, we took all we could get from him, piece by piece. We've called him a freak. We've accused him of indecency, when in fact, Michael Jackson was a decent human being who did more to benefit mankind than any celebrity alive. As the king of the entertainment industry, he used his wealth to improve world wide issues, to such extremes that he is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as having given to more charities than any entertainer known to man.

Besides, he's the only man alive who's been both black and white. Whether this plight was due to a choice he made or a rare skin disease, what difference does it make in the scheme of things? If the color of his skin made him a freak, maybe we need to redefine what our society thinks about freaks. It could be us who needs to
