If you are a big Michael Jackson fan, then Thursday, June 25 was the day that changed your life forever. That was the day that your idol, Michael Jackson, had passed away at the age of 50 in Los Angeles. I'll bet that you were shocked when you heard the news.
Let's face it: Michael Jackson did not have a normal life. In fact, he didn't have a normal childhood. Growing up in Gary, Indiana, he became a big star at the age of 11, with four Number One hits within the same year, and he had to deal with a extremely demanding father. As the years went by, he was a huge superstar and he sold millions of records. He had bleached his skin. He was an accused child molester. He had plastic surgery. He had his Neverland ranch with giraffes, amusement rides, and a pet chimp named Bubbles. He married Lisa Marie, but they soon got divorced. He then married Debbie Rowe, they had two children, and then they too got divorced. He had his third child by a surrogate mother. He dangled him out of a hotel room in Berlin. He went on trial for child molestation charges and he was acquitted. He lived a lavish lifestyle. He was in debt. And now he's dead at the age of 50.
Just like Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, the Kennedy brothers, Princess Diana, and Anna Nicole Smith, Michael Jackson's death has become a media circus, and with a lot of unanswered questions. They wait until they're dead, and then they start digging up dirt about them. You kind of feel as though you were watching a soap opera. In fact, let's set the scenario:
"And now, Michael Jackson: Death of a Superstar. Michael Jackson had rented a spectacular multi-million-dollar house in the swanky Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles. On a Thursday in late June, he suffers cardiac arrest at the house. The paramedics try desperately to save his life. He was taken to the UCLA Medical Center and he died at 2:26 pm Pacific Time.
He names his mother Catherine as the legal guardian of his three kids, and Diana Ross as a backup just in case anything happens to Catherine. But wait! There's more! Debbie Rowe is now deciding whether or not she wants to take custody of the kids. She signed over her rights to the kids, but then she changes her mind. And now, a nanny wants to step in and raise the kids.
On a bright and sunny Tuesday morning in early July in the City of Angels, thousands of fans pour into the Staples Center for his public memorial. Smokey Robinson, Berry Gordy, Mariah Carey, Queen Latifah, Brooke Shields, Jennifer Hudson, the Rev. Al Sharpton, Jermaine and Randy Jackson (no: not the Americal Idol judge) toast their memories of the King of Pop. But his so-called friends, Diana Ross and Elizabeth Taylor, never show up. Why? In the meantime, there are a lot of unanswered questions.
Who gave Michael Jackson the Deprivan so that he could rest up for his upcoming 50-concert tour? Who is really the father of those kids? Will any of them have to appear on the Maury show to get paternity tests? What really caused Michael Jackson's death? What will the toxicology reports reveal? Who will really control Michael Jackson's estate? Will Catherine Jackson, Diana Ross, Debbie Rowe, or even the nanny get custody of the kids? Will Catherine and Diana live long enough to see the kids grow up, graduate from high school, go on to college, and even get married? And will little Blanket's biological mother ever show up? For this and more, tune into the continuing story of Michael Jackson: Death of a Superstar".
But in reality, only God alone is going to judge Michael Jackson, and not the media. As far as getting custody of the kids go, it's really up to a judge to decide.
Let's try to remember Michael Jackson for his music and let him rest in peace. Thank you.
