I started scrapbooking about a year and a half ago and I've been an avid scrapbooker ever since. I started scrapbooking for the purpose of keeping all kinds of memories alive. I didn't want to do it the old, boring photo album way. I wanted something creative, I wanted to be creative and scrapbooking seemed like the perfect option.

My first scrapbook told the story of my life at school in the city. The scrapbook itself had pictures of city buildings on the front in black and white, which was perfect for the story I was going to tell. I filled the book up with pictures of statues that I liked and in the city of Philadelphia there so many unique statues around; it was so hard to choose sometimes. I put pictures of buildings with architecture I thought was unique. Also, I put pictures of my friends and me with descriptions of what we where doing at that time and of course the date, that's always important. Now when I go through that book I always smile, because I have all the good times I had living in the city in one place.

The reason I think scrapbooking is so popular is because it's a different spin on the photo album. You are free to be creative; you can use different colored paper, backgrounds, stickers and so much more. Scrapbooking is an inexpensive way to keep the good times you want to remember and it makes a great gift. Everyone can do scrapbooking, there's no way to mess it up, even children can do it, its good way to keep them busy and a great way to reveal their creative side. It also makes a great hobby, on a boring winter day you can go to your local craft store and find some things for your scrapbook or books that appeal to you. Then you can spend the rest of the day letting your creativity flow and the finished product will be something you and everyone can enjoy.
