Poetry: Losing faith

by Edward Earl

I look into the eyes of days gone by,

There is little there but pain;

No substance of hope although I try,

Sunshine drowned by the rain.

Clinging to words, phrases from the past,

Vanity, all vanity, is all hope lost;

As a withered soul, an eternal heart fast,

Loss of faith leads to ultimate cost.

Faith waning, desperately gasping for air,

Life light fading to barely a spark;

Searching for strength, needing His care,

Mankind's remnant on a sinking ark.

Yet losing is not the same as lost,

Faith's salvation looms in the mist.
