Breakfast is supposedly the most important meal of the day, and the one most frequently skipped. It is the one stop refuelling for a body starved of food overnight and can set the tone for the day ahead.

The easy option for breakfast is to grab a box of cereal, a bowl, spoon and some milk and hey prestobut there are other options out there for interesting fruit based breakfasts.

Smoothies.
If you can't face solid food in the morning why not start the day with a healthy smoothie, made with fruit and low fat yoghurt.

Fruit salad
can be made the night before and kept in a container in the fridge. A mix of tangy citrus fruits and sweeter seasonal fruits can then be topped with a spoonful of low fat yogurt, crme fraiche or fromage frais and sprinkled with a handful of nuts or seeds just before serving.

Grilled banana.
Slice a banana lengthwise and pop under the grill with a slice of granary or whole wheat bread to toast. Place the banana on the toast and drizzle a half teaspoon of warm organic honey or sprinkle with cinnamon.

Grilled grapefruit.
Halve a red and yellow grapefruit, remove any obvious pips. Place under medium grill until warmed, either sprinkle with cinnamon or drizzle half teaspoon of organic honey and grill until caramelised. Serve with a tablespoon of low fat yoghurt or crme fraiche and a handful of granola clusters or other oaty cereal or a few almonds.

Fruity layered pots.
Into a large glass or small bowl place a spoonful of soft berries, top with a spoonful of low fat yoghurt or crme fraiche, a layer of crunchy cereal, more soft fruits, etc until the glass or bowl is full.
