Christian Charles Philip Bale was born January 30, 1974 in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK. His father, David Bale was a south-African born entrepreneur, commercial pilot and talent manager. His mother, Jenny James was an English circus clown. Throughout his childhood, Bale and his family, including sisters: Erin, Sharon and Louise, grew up in many different countries including Portugal, England and the United States. Christian made his professional debut alongside Rowan Atkinson (British comedian) in Steven Spielberg's WWII epic, Empire of the Sun (1987). He beat out 4000 other children for the role of James Graham. A true star at the age of 13, Christian wowed the critics with his heartfelt performance earning him the award for, "Best Performance by a Juvenile Actor" by the National Board of Review. This award was specifically created for Christian's performance as James Graham.

Christian has starred in many popular movies, but he has also starred on stage in Shakespeare, dramas and comedies, highlighting his versatility as an actor. His dedication to his role and his presence make him a favourite amongst the fans. After Bale's role as Patrick Bateman for American Psycho (2000), Entertainment Weekly called Christian, one of the "Most Creative People on Entertainment". Unlike any other actor, Bale has a knack for learning different accents, he has used a different one for each of his films. Entertainment Weekly also named Bale one of the "Top 8 Most Powerful Cult Figures". Of course, there is always a down side to fame. Christian famously ranted on the set of Terminator: Salvation (2009) and it was all caught on film. Proving just how influential he is, a new phrase has been created and added to the 2009 addition of "Cultural Dictionary", by Cramer-Krassett. The term is "Baleing-out". This phrase is used to describe someone who is ranting. Christain married his wife, Sibi Biazic January 29, 2000. The couple have a daughter who was born in 2005. It is believed that her name is Emmaline; however, the actor has never publicly confirmed this. He prefers to keep his personal life personal.

Some of his most famous roles include: Swing Kids (1993) - Christian studied dance to prepare for his role as Jack 'Cowboy' Kelly, Little Women (1994) - Winona Ryder hand picked Bale for the role of Laurie. American Psycho (2000) - one of the most intense characters played by the actor. Shaft (2000) - Bale was called a 'mofo' by actor, Samuel L Jackson. Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) - Christian is the only actor, other than Michael Keaton, to play Batman more than once. Terminator: Salvation (2009) - as the infamous John Connor. Public Enemies (2009) - alongside Johnny Depp. He is currently working on two projects, and is scheduled to make another Terminator movie as well as another Batman movie.
