looking out the window
i see the mist lying on the grass
across the road
cool whiteness
against the purple of dusk
I step into the gathering dark
dash into the mist
let it surround me
let myself be seen through it
I want to be one with the mist
to lay over the fields at night
softening the lights
hiding the sharp edges
but dissipating in day's light

Which shards of sunlight underscore
Birds perched
I always love to be alone
Among the older trees
And marvel as to how they've grown

Where stars
bow their heads
in slumber

around me
above and beyond

Hiking stick in hand
I looked out over the meadow
The vision I saw was grand
