Investing in ETFs

What is an EFT? And how does one invest in an EFT?

First, of all it might help to note what it is NOT. It is not an ETF. The sequence of those letters makes a difference. ETF stands for Exchange Traded Fund, an instrument to make it convenient to buy and sell on a stock exchange shares of a "basket of stocks". Often the "basket" contains a fixed number of shares of all the companies in a major stock market index like the S&P 500 index. This is similar to a mutual fund, except that there is no fund manager deciding what stocks maintain in a portfolio of stocks.

If you thought an EFT was an Exchange Traded Fund, perhaps you are not paying close enough attention to details to risk your money in them. No, EFT is not an Exchange Traded Fund.

So what is EFT?

EFT also stands for Electronic Funds Transfer. One could perhaps "invest" in these EFTs in the sense of using them to make on-line payments of bills instead of writing paper checks. That would save postage, time, and maybe even a tree here and there. Sounds good to me.

Emotional Fitness Program is yet another EFT. And I'm sure if you looked around a bit you could find other groups of words that start with those three letters in that order. Such is the nature of acronyms.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is yet one more possibility.

This is a technique of maintaining or improving health or performance by utilizing the "mind/body" connection. In this case the question would be, how does one "invest" in it? Perhaps one might invest the time it takes to learn about it and the time it takes to apply what you learn in order to achieve the desired outcome. This seems to me to be a worthwhile "investment" that promises great rewards for your invested efforts.

Many of the body's aches and pains are not the direct result of physical injury or a disease process. Its not fair to say they are all in your head. But sometimes a tired and stressed out body gets creative in giving us an excuse to slow down. When we feel like we are carrying the weight of the world on our back, we might actually suffer from back pain. If you "can't stomach" your boss, you might suffer from indigestion. If your neighbor is "a pain in the neck", guess what...Think about it. I'm sure you know of other similar connections. And these ailments are very real. You didn't "think them into existence". But somehow, your body responded to what you were feeling.

Learning about this and how to manage it seems to me to be a worthwhile "investment" that promises great rewards for your invested efforts.

One might also consider "investing" in becoming a certified EFT therapist. That would facilitate making money by teaching others how EFT will help them. This is a new way of approaching personal wellbeing. With the ever-increasing costs of health care, it strikes me this could be a cost-effective service that could see increasing demand and be worth providing.

With any investment, rule number one should always be: Know what it is that you are investing in.
