So, you've admitted you were powerless over drugs and alcohol and that your life has become unmanageable. You've taken the first step of the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. It was tough, but undeniable in the face of the chaos that your life has become. These next two steps, though, seem a lot more complicated came to believe in a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity and Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to a God as we understood him
Many people come to drug rehab with no concept of God or even a down right contempt for a God they feel abandoned them when they needed Him most. Right here, in steps 2 and 3, people are expected not only to find God but also turn their lives over to him. Religion and Christian drug rehab might not work for everyone. It is not required of someone coming into a Christian drug rehab program to be a good Christian, or even a Christian at the inception of the program, all one need to succeed is an open mind with regard to God and Christ. Some of the greatest detractors of the religion had a conversion experience that then made the greatest champions of Christianity. Even if an addict walks away from Christian drug rehab a non-believer, seeds of faith may have been planted. And if the counselors and staff at the Christian drug rehab center have mirrored the love and compassion of Christ, the addict will have benefited from the experience.
If an addict comes to rehab with a Christian religious foundation, then Christian drug rehab program may offer a way to translate the ideas of spirituality of the 12 step model into a faith based program that is easier for the addict to relate to. In a Christian drug rehab facility, Christianity as a faith base can provide a unifying belief among the participants that can strengthen and reinforce treatment concepts. Christianity can offer a path of forgiveness to an addict that may feel he has committed unforgivable acts. In a Christian drug rehab program, the concept of Christ's forgiveness of all mankind for all collective sins can serve as a powerful healing concept for the patient. Unless and addict can find forgiveness, they can not find freedom from drug addiction.
An addict is most vulnerable when he is at the point of giving up his will and his life to a God of his own understanding. A Christian drug rehab is equipped to support an addict in his search for that God. All religion, and Christianity in particular has answered spirituality questions
