Smile
they always tell me,
Smile
you'll feel better.
Smile
even if you don't want to.
Smile
for our sake
Smile
for your own sake.
Smile
she says, as she mocks me.
Smile
as she twists her face into a caricatured grin
Smile
but when it all comes back around,
when i get mine and you get yours,
when what goes up must come down,
then you won't say Smile anymore.
Frown
I shake my head in pain
Frown
or sometimes in disgust
Frown
at their mockeries
Frown
at their silly demands of cheer
Since when the world is dark,
Any no one really can see,
I feel the emptiness that's inside my heart,
I Frown, and know that it's me.
Scream
and throw the 'phone across the hall.
Scream
watch it break apart, slam it onto the hook.
Scream
tell her to hold my wrists
Scream
to keep me from hurting myself
Scream
running into the night
Scream
pounding against the walls
And when the end arrives,
When we kill the earth and sky,
I'll look back at all our lives,
and I'll Scream, but not know why.
Love
like a child in my arms
Love
her quiet ways, and gentle charms
Love
the kiss each time she goes away
Love
each return, each call, each word.
For someday, love will find its way,
someday it will open doors,
until there's only one thing left,
just Love and nothing more.
