Retro games rarely get much publicity and for the most part, they are sold online as downloads. It's a shame really because many of them are pretty decent as long as they're taken for what they are. Zombie Shooter is one such game. However, some people might deem the price a bit too steep when it's compared to the price of other games from indie developers.
It is also necessary to note that the game is from the same developers as the Alien Shooter series, so if you've played those games, then you should know what to expect from this game. However, replace the alien hordes with zombies and bingo, you know the sort of game you'll be playing and what enemies you'll face.
Story:
The story is about some experiments that have gone wrong and has led to the scientists, amongst others, becoming zombies who hunger for flesh. Not much has changed from this game's story to the ones featured in films then or other games. All that matters is that you're tasked with defeating the zombie hordes before you and with protecting the human race from harm. The story is thin and only serves the purpose of providing a reason for the slaughter that will follow and there will be plenty of killing in this game.
Gameplay:
The game is played from a bird's eye view. Before the game starts, you're tasked with choosing a character and buying some basic equipment for him or her to use. You won't have enough cash to afford any of the more powerful equipment.
Once the game actually starts, you'll find yourself in what appears to be an abandoned location. You'll need to navigate the area and find a few switches etc. in order to progress. However, you may want to destroy some of the objects lying around for equipment and money. It soon becomes apparent while searching for said switches that the location isn't abandoned as you run into rats and some dogs. Upon flipping the correct switch, you head into a facility and it is here that the main game begins as you find yourself under assault from zombies that hunger for human flesh.
It is here that the core gameplay is introduced. You simply go around the level blasting through wave after wave of zombies while lining the levels with the corpses of your foes and also lining them with their red (or green) blood. The corpses never disappear. That's basically all there is to the game. However, your character can also level up and gets points to assign that can increase his or her health. This also applies to walking speed and strength. Things like that. The money accumulated can also be spent on equipment between each mission.
The game works nicely but I found that the character gets stuck occasionally which is annoying.
Graphics, presentation and sound:
The graphics, presentation and sound really have no faults considering it's by a small indie company who don't have the resources of big companies.
Overall:
It's worth a look at as long as you don't mind the repetitive gameplay.
