Poetry: Childhood

by J.G. Sparks

Hide and Seek

We were just children then
You took my hand in yours so innocently
We raced through the trees
Searching for a place, a sanctuary
Crouching down behind the bush
Gasping for air from laughing
Trying to keep quiet
So that we wouldn't be found
Our hands still held together
By an invisible force
A blush on our cheeks
And dirt covering our pants
You looked at me and I looked at you
Hoping that we could just stay here
Forever and not be found
