Every website needs traffic, and this is also one of the biggest challenges that websites face. It is all about the traffic, and sites literally spend thousands of hours to get the traffic they want. Some even spend a lot of money, and realize that they have wasted their money.

If you want to increase traffic, you can do this without posting ads. Yes, ads do help and do generate traffic, but you may not be able to afford ads. Here are some ways to increase traffic to your website

Advertise on free sites- there are many great places, such as forums where you can post the link of your site for free. You should do this without breaking the website rules. What you need to do is create a user id on forums that allow you to put web links in your signatures. You can use this signature to put the link of your website. If the forums relate to the niche of your site, then you will get the quality traffic that you have always wanted. The best thing is that you won't need to pay a single penny for this traffic!

Create more link exchanges- Make some friends online that also have a site. If their site is lacking some information, then tell them to provide their visitors with a link to your site. This way you will get free traffic. You can also return the favour to them by putting their link on your site. This is a mutual benefit trade. You are basically creating ads, but for free.

Register with website directories- There are a lot of directories out there which allow you to post your website link with a description. I have used around 10 directories for my own site. These directories will help you get free traffic, and also improve your search engine rank. Just google website directories, and you will find them. You may have to put a little banner of the website directory on your site, but in most cases you will be able to remove it after you are verified as the website owner.

Use online social networking sites- You can use facebook and Orkut to advertise your website to millions of people for free. However, make sure that you don't break any rules and don't go overboard, because then that will be spam, and your traffic might get affected. Social netoworking sites also give you the ability to join groups. Join some groups that relate to your niche and ask the admin to put your link on the homepage. If this happens, you will get thousands of visitors flooding to your site!
