Video game characters: Thursday from Disgaea

If you're an outer space super hero with a pair of sidekicks, it's pretty much a given that one of them will be a beautiful woman and the other one a robot. Given the way he looks, Thursday definitely isn't the beautiful woman.

An extremely powerful robot built by said female - Jennifer - when she was very young, Thursday serves as a constant companion and aid to Captain Gordon in defense of the Earth. Needless to say he is constantly branded as a fellow Defender of Earth, and despite his metallic exterior and lack of fleshy innards Thursday is deemed to have the heart for the job. Nevertheless he's rather willing to concede that the captain is something of an airhead, and often offers more rational alternatives to Gordon's schemes.

Thursday accompanies Captain Gordon and Jennifer on their mission into the Netherworld to defeat Laharl and keep the Earth safe. Along with Gordon he engages in battle with Laharl, but despite their combined might they still lose to the bratty Overlord and are forced into servitude as his vassals. Only Gordon seems to suffer from this arrangement, however, and Laharl is never seen ordering Thursday around.

Thursday later learns along with the rest of the crew that Jennifer's father, General Carter, plans on using the Netherworld as a new colonizing ground for the rapidly overcrowding Earth, pushing them to fight against Carter's plans. Thursday helps Laharl and the rest of his vassals take on the general, and further accompanies them to Celestia to discover the true reason behind their involvement with the forces of Earth. It's not know exactly what happens to Gordon and his crew after Disgaea ends, though presumably they're eventually released from their bondage to Laharl.

Thursday, Gordon and Jennifer return again in Disgaea 2 in a cameo mission if the player calls Kurtis on cell phones often enough. Arriving to deal with a series of Kurtis clones, the trio attempts to help Kurtis and Adell fight the rogue robots but Thursday and Jennifer are knocked out for the duration of the fight, and do little of relevance. They also return in Disgaea 3 as downloadable characters, granting Thursday the new Magichange ability of becoming a Bow.

Thursday is both limited but extremely effective. As a robot and a monster type he has very few moves; however his moves are extremely powerful if properly leveled, and his best can hit up to eight enemies at a time. Thursday also has the highest natural aptitudes almost across the board in Disgaea, making him an excellent choice for combat.
