Does attending church matter?

by Hokua oe Lopqi Lokki

It isn't where you are that matters when worshipping God. So, I do not believe that attending the church of the masses or the church built of material items is not as important as caring for the temple that God provided you the very day you were born.

In Matthews of the bible it tells a tale of Christ in the temple and turning over the market centers and yelling at them for defiling it. He was angry at them being there with their stands, for selling what should be free for the sacrifices needed to God/The Divine. He told them that if they tore down the structure that he could rebuild God's temple in one day. He wasn't talking about the structure. He was talking about the human body that houses the soul given to us by God/The Divine.

People get so bent out of shape if you don't attend church. What they forget is that church isn't a place, it is your body. God's temple is the body that he gave you to house your spirit. You are the one who is asked to upkeep it, to care for it, till you are taken for judgement. It is what you do here on earth that determines how you will be judged.

Christ taught us to be humble unto God. He told us to be kind to others. He told us to give freely, and no to let your heart or mind interfere with your giving "Give but let not your left hand know what your right hand is doing." Some teach us that, the bible says, "We should hate our enemy". This is not totally untrue. I believe Moses did teach this, but Christ said "You have heard it said to hate your enemy, but I say to love your enemy." Many teach hate and bigotry, but Christ taught love, forgiveness, compassion, and not to judge others. He told us that it is not our place to judge but to love unconditionally as God our Father does. If we practiced, truly practiced the words and teachings of Christ then we would be in church everyday without ever stepping foot inside of a building made by man, because when you practice the teachings he gave us then you are in closer contact with Our Creator than anyone who goes to church and does not practice his teachings.

God is inside one and all, despite the pigment of skin, their desires, their health issues, the differences in size or appearance. God made everyone of us, not just a select few. It is the things we do with and towards others that determines how's God Our Creator looks at and views us, not whether we went to a building erected in his name. Many people go to church buildings. Not everyone that goes to them is a good person though. We would like to think that they are. The truth is though, some of those people are there to pick up dates. Some are their because they were forced or felt forced to go (that people would look down on them for not going despite the fact they don't believe in the things being taught). Some of those people hope to use the church as a disguise for the evil they have done or are doing, are planning on earth. Church is not just a place to gather and worship. Church is the housing for God's spirit, and we each have a piece of his spirit inside us. So in truth, God's church is you. You should consider that the next time you are drinking alcohol, smoking, using narcotics, or whatever. You should ask yourself when you are doing these things, "Would I want this done to my home? Is this the type of respect God would want given to him and/or his home?" If the answer is no, then don't do it. God deserves each and everyone of our top respect. Stop defiling his church with such things. Decorations might be ok. I'm not God. I can't tell you how to or how not to decorate God's holy shrine.

I can tell you that church isn't where you go. Church is with you everywhere. If you feel yourself slipping, don't wait till Sunday mass, get down on your knees then and there. Ask for strength, because the body is weak, but the spirit is strong and God is stronger. Christ said, "If you ask, you shall receive." So ask and he will give you the will power to fight temptation. Very important, you have to truly truly want it first. It is not important to go to a church built by man to worship God, because man is God's ultimate Church built by God. God made man in his likeness and woman in the likeness of man. Therefore, we as the creations of God in the image of God are his ultimate temple of salvation. So in desecrating our bodies we are desecrating his temple that he made in his likeness. We take God's church with us everywhere we go. When we offend another human being we are offending a church of God, regardless of his ideals, his appearance and so forth. These things are irrelevant. Let God take care of what he believes this person is guilty of. Even though we think he/she is sinning, we may be sinning more by passing judgement. For Christ said, "Judge not less ye be judged." None of us are perfect. Judging them because their views are different is wrong. Unless this human, this likeness made by God, is causing actual harm to others, you have no authority over him/her. Leave them to God if they aren't hurting anyone. If they are hurting others then you should put him where he/she can't hurt someone else or find someway to prevent them from hurting others, remembering at all times that this person is a house of God.

So one last time, I say it isn't where you go o church or how you worship God. It is more important that you do worship God, by praying to God, by giving thanks to God, By honoring God, By helping others, By loving others no matter what their flaws.
