I have had a total of six dogs in my life time. After each one either my mother or myself said no more dogs. When I was about five I found a stray. It was a beagle that I named Timmy after my best friend. Timmy the dog immediately became my most cherished friend. After about six months Timmy ran away. There I was lost and alone. I was so devastated that my mother said "no more dogs."My older brother felt sorry for me and got me another dog,to this day I have no idea where he got her. I think she had Dalmatian and beagle in her. She was white with black spot about the size of a beagle. I wanted to name her Freckles but could not pronounce it so her name ended up Frinkles.
I loved that dog so much that my mother got her feelings hurt thinking I loved the dog more then I did her. I did not want to admit at the time but as I reflect back., maybe I did. Every place I went Frinkles did too. She would follow me to school and look into the classroom window at me. All the children knew Frinkles and I were inseparable. They would holler"There's Frinkles!" This would disrupt the whole class,as they giggled and ran to the window.
One Easter my mother was dressed to the nines in her white Easter hat with pastel pink trim and dress to match the pink trim in the hat Of course the most stylish of pink shoes. She dressed me up as cute as possible in a little yellow suit with a yellow matching hat and white patten shoes. We walked into church just as proud as a mother and daughter could be. looking so beautiful on that Easter morning.everyone looked at us and nodded. We knew the were looking so long at us because we were so Devinne and the best dressed they had ever seen. We proudly walked up and sat in the fourth pew as we always did with my grandmother and sat down in the most elegant way. My mother glanced around and there was Frinkles who had followed us right into church. My mother got up with reddest of faces and dragged the dog outside by the collar. The deacons had to shut the church doors,on such a gorgeous Easter morning.. My mother realized to her deflated ego that the parishioners were not looking at us in admiration but in horror that we should bring a dog to church, especially on Easter.
There were many dogs in our neighborhood Dalmatians, cock spaniels, Great Danes and beagles. Frinkles had many boyfriends in the neighborhood. When Frinkles had puppies no one knew who the father was. Her first litter of puppies looked like a combination of cocker r and collie.
