How to maximize your wireless network distance

by Joshua Sun

Created on: July 06, 2009

Are you frustrated that your wireless router is having bad signals? Well you why don't you just simply buy a new one!
Or, you can increase your signal strength and make your simple crappy wireless router something better?
All you have to do is use a bit of your free time to try to increase your signal strength.

There are lots of ways to increase your signal strength, but one of the most effective and simply way is to make your own windsurfer or

Ez-12 Parabolic Reflector

The template of the reflector can be downloaded using this link http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template2/index .html

It is the picture at the bottom of the page, just save it to your computer to download it. You must keep the picture at the same scale for it to work!

Use the instructions on the website or follow mine.

Steps: 1. Print out the picture in the same scale onto a card.

2. Stick the back of the card (the side that is not printed on) onto a sheet of foil - make sure the entire side is glued on, not just the edge.

3. Cut out the shapes excepted for the box saying <keep square>.

4. Use a crafting knife and cut the six lines of the rectangle and the 2 cross of the other shape.

5. Insert the six tabs of the shape into the six lines of the rectangle, make sure the side with the foil is facing each other to the inside.

6. Stick the tabs at the back to hold it together.

7. Now I stick a pencil through both of the crosses to make the hole larger.

8. Stick hole through the antenna, make sure the top of the hole just goes through the top of the antenna.

Testing the windsurfer:

-Disable your wireless and move to a room where you use to not be able to find any signal, turn on your wireless and see if you can connect to it.

-See if your downloads are faster

-Check your internet speed from long range

The bigger the windsurfer is the better the signal strength is. If your wireless router have 2 antennas, you can put 2 of the windsurfers on double the effect.

Your signal should now be a lot better, and the distance of the signal should increase, if it somehow does not work, try to :

-Remake the windsurfer

-If your windsurfer is made bigger, download the template again and this time do not change the size

-Change your card

-Change your foil

-Take the windsurfer out and put it back in

-Check if the tabs are still in

-Check for parts peeling off
