Whether it be clothing or haircuts, how we feel about our change is what matters. When it comes to our hair, it is a very personal choice. We can look in the mirror and the new do can look absolutely perfect but its how we feel that matters. So what makes a good hair cut?
A good haircut starts with a cut and style that fits your personality and capabilities. It needs to fit your personal choice in whether you want it short, long or in between. It needs to fit your life style and even career choice. It should flatter your features and style. A good haircut is one that when you go home and shower, you yourself are able to fix it in the same style.
A good haircut will stand the test in time, as it grows out, it will survive without looking bushy or tend to become a helmet on one's head. A good haircut shouldn't require a re-cut in two weeks. One should be able to have a short cut and decide to let it grow and only need a basic trim or shaping 3 weeks later. If you find you have to go to the salon every two weeks it's possible the cosmetologist is thinning your hair to deep in the cut. When over thinning happens the hair tends to look busy as the shorter strands start growing and pushing the other hair out. Thinning hair is best done on the ends and not deep into the bulk of the hair.
A good haircut will immediately lift your spirits and appearance. One of the best ways to find a good hairstylist is to listen. Word of mouth is a stylist's best advertisement. Customers will state loudly if they are thrilled or NOT.
When choosing a style for yourself its best for it to be a style that fits you as a person. Don't let the stylist talk you into something you don't want. Listen to their advice, as they do know certain cuts look better with certain face shapes; but remember it still should be what you want.
One can compare new haircuts to shopping for clothes. Have you ever picked out a shirt or a pair of jeans and tried them on. You look in the mirror they look great. Everyone is wearing them; they are very much in style, but you don't feel comfortable in them. You buy them any way. You take them home, try them on again, admire yourself in the mirror and hang them up. You might even put them on, but at the last moment change your mind, you just don't feel right in them. They hang in your closet for months on end. Don't let choosing a haircut or hairstyle be like clothing fads; you will regret and think you got a bad haircut, when actually it's all about style and not the cut.
