The importance of first impressions in a job interview

A good first impression is one of the most overlooked aspects of getting a job. Many people do not put in the time and effort that they should to get a good job. They do not believe that the first impression is of much importance. I can assure you, it is. You may have the most impressive resume ever, but your first impression is still likely to matter more. In many jobs, the most important qualities are things that you will possess that doesn't translate to paper. It is therefore, vitally important that you have a good first impression.

I have worked as a receptionist, and I know that it was my first impression that gave me the job. I also know my co-workers made judgements based on my first impression and this determined whether they would help me adjust or not. This also determined how my boss would view me as he was very dependent on the top receptionist's opinion. However, regardless of the job that you are trying to get, you must certainly make a good impression.

Just today, I had a job interview. In the interview, I dressed to impress and I also had gone over typical questions. I wanted to make sure that I would be well-prepared. I really wanted the job. I did get it. I am very happy and very impressed with myself. I worked hard and it finally worked. However, I have gone to other job interviews before this where I did not get the job. Perseverance has finally paid off for me and it can for you too. You just must make sure that you persevere.

One thing that you will need to get a good impression in order to get a good job, is personality. Employers want people who seem professional but not people who seem dead. If you seem to lifeless, you will not seem enthusiastic about the job. People who act very enthusiastic about the job but at the same time professional, are the people who will succeed in this world. People like this will also succeed in their jobs. They will do a lot of good at their jobs and make more money than they had previously thought possible. Besides, if you do not enjoy your job then you need to look for one that you will.

A first impression will help your potentially future boss to determine if you would make a good fit for the company and be a good person to employ. Often times, this "fit" is a difficult one. It helps to determine if you are a good fit by the first impression you make. Basically, be yourself, be professional and be enthusiastic. Know your stuff and know how you should respond to questions. Once you do this, you'll be ready.
