Touring the national monuments and memorial parks of Washington, D.C.: How to make the most of your trip

With its amazing collection of impressive historic landmarks, inspiring national monuments and beautiful parks, the only obstacle to an experience of monumental proportion for visitors to Washington, D.C., is the difficulty in choosing which sites to include on their itineraries. Make the most of your visit by including the essential sites and attractions that should be on every visitor's list.

Getting There

With Ronald Reagan National and Dulles International airports, Union Station and easy freeway access, Washington, D.C., is easily reached by air, rail and car. Amtrak provides scheduled rail service to D.C. from most major U.S. cities.

Getting Around

For those arriving by air and rail, the efficient, safe and economical public transit system, Metrorail, is the easiest way to get around the city. Metrorail stations are conveniently located near most of the major attractions and offer easy access to lodging, dining and shopping. Passes are available at vending machines located in the stations.

For the budget-minded traveler looking for basic, clean, comfortable and safe accommodations that won't break the bank, HI-DC offers the best value. Located in the heart of downtown, this 250-bed hostel offers dorm-style rooms at rates from $25 per night. A limited number of private rooms are also available at extra cost. HI-DC is located near Metro Center Station.

Where to Eat
