Rabbitweb.net is one of only a few major websites dedicated just to rabbits. When individuals purchase rabbits, they may believe it can't be any more difficult than raising a cat. However, rabbits have special needs including a strict diet and can succumb to illnesses sometimes not seen in other animals. Websites such as Rabbitweb.net is a place where novice and veteran rabbit owners can go to find answers to their rabbit questions.
This website features many articles relating to health, care, and breeding of rabbits. The care section begins with the basics with "Rabbit Care for Beginners". And I mean it when I say this is a "basic" section. For a rabbit website, I was quite surprised at the little detail given to the diet and nutrition of these animals with unique digestive systems. This "beginner" area also doesn't mention housing for indoor rabbits but does give some minor information for outdoor rabbit housing.
Interesting enough, the website does provide full-length articles on building a rabbit cage, hutches, a hay rack, and nestbox. So it was quite disappointing to see such little information on the nutritional requirements needed by rabbits. Just visiting different areas of the site, it appeared the site was aimed more towards breeders and outdoor rabbits but there is some information given on litter-box training.
Where Rabbitweb.net is highly lacking is in the health section. There is a list given of common ailments, disorders, and diseases that can affect rabbits but the information concerning each of these problems is deficient. For many of these illnesses, only a short description is given and important information such as signs and treatments of the illness is omitted.
One area which is often overlooked by other sites is rabbit showing including youth 4-H showing which is covered on this site. Rabbitweb.net provides valuable information for individuals wanting to throw their hat (or rabbit) into the show ring. This specific area of the site covers the basics, dos and don'ts of showing, and an important list of terms used in rabbit showing. Although the site usually refers viewers to the ARBA site (American Rabbit Breeders Association), Rabbitweb.net does offer extensive and helpful information on rabbit showing.
Just like with the showing of rabbits, this website also provides an extensive view on rabbit breeding. Beginning with the "Diary of a New Breeder" and leading to the business side of owning rabbits, this website will give a beneficial outlook on the art of rabbit breeding. And finally, the site offers book reviews of some of the more popular rabbit care books on the market.
Overall, Rabbitweb.net is a clean and uncluttered site with very little advertising. There is a community board available for rabbit enthusiasts to gather and discuss everything rabbits including health care or just simply sharing pictures of your bunnies. For breeders and showing information, this site offers useful information but for a rabbit website, I was disappointed in the lack of care information especially for those of us who own house rabbits.
