Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG): Building a good team

virtual world. If you allow immature players into your guild, that is how your guild will be portrayed. Many guilds have fallen due to immature players being accepted into their ranks. Only a handful have been successful and are still up and running today.

There is one major factor that plays a role in weeding out immature players: A recruitment process.

The Basic Recruitment Process:

This is a major role for the rank of Team Leader. The first priority for a recruitment process is the application to join. There must be a detailed application in place for people to fill out. This can be emailed to prospective members or can be included on the guild website. This will give you some basic information on the person trying to join and is the first determining factor on whether or not they will be a fit to your guild.

If they happen to pass this first stage with a good application then they should be moved on to in-game evaluation. A good time frame for this evaluation period is one month. It seems like a long period of time but it gives other members in the guild a chance to meet this person and do in-game activities with them. Members should be expected to report back any bad information regarding a recruit during this time. During this time the recruit should be sending a weekly update to their team leader to let them know how things are going for them with the members and at least one thing they learned about the guild they didn't know before. It creates a sense of ownership to the guild and makes it more likely that they will stay for the long run.

The last part of the recruitment process is a final update from the recruit and a welcome from the guild master. A good tradition that guilds use is a story to go along with the recruit getting accepted into the ranks. This creates a more apparent sense of ownership to the guild and it lets them feel like they are now a part of the story.

This process and structure of guild ownership has been proven to be successful. But remember it is basic. Feel free to customize it to the guilds taste and you will have a very long lasting, meaningful community of people that respect and adore it.
