By definition, a "team" in an MMORPG is mostly known as a "Guild" or "Clan". The word guild is widely recognized as a group of players that share a bond by name or title inside a virtual world. Being a part of a guild can be prestigious or not depending on the way it is set up and how the person that owns the entity runs it. There have been millions of guilds created since the phenomenon started in the 1990's and millions have fell under their own weight. There is a delicate balance that is required for a guild to be successful and many do not and did not know what that balance was which caused their entity to collapse.
The Successful Basic Guild Structure:
There is a basic structure to a guild that resembles the military.
The first rank is known as "Guild master". This is the person who owns the guild itself and usually has the overall say in what direction the guild is going to take. They are solely responsible for the guild and are comparable to the commander in chief. They appoint the officers of the guild and make sure everything runs smoothly. They are the PR person, the CEO, and the support team all wrapped up into one. This is the most important job and must be taken seriously for a guild to be successful.
The second rank is Guild Officer. These are the support staff to the guild master. They are the trusted ones. The ones that would take a bullet for the commander in chief. They have to be trustworthy because they will have the same access to the guild as the guild master. As the guild master is handling the business functions of the guild, this rank is handling all member issues and in-game functions. They can hire and fire the next rank down which is extremely important because the next rank down are the eyes and ears of the guild.
The third rank is Squad or Team Leader. In a large successful guild this rank must be incorporated. They are the leaders of the members and take all complaints and praises to the Officers. Ideally, the guild will be split into different squads or teams that have one appointed team leader. This leader will send all news and information to the members. They will also be responsible for accepting new members and dropping problem ones. They will have some guild access but not complete guild access like the officers.
The final rank is member. This is the everyday player that enjoys the guild for what it is. They are the face of the guild and should have the personality that the guild master wants to show the rest of the
