Poetry: Mistakes

The Cliche Mistake

He was a chip off the old block

And he had a chip on his shoulder.

It could be said that he was

Caught between a rock and a hard place.

He had put all his eggs in one basket,

He had bet the farm,

He had counted his chickens before they hatched,

And now he was as poor as dirt.

He had found out the hard way

That every path has its puddle,

Every rose has its thorn,

That some things are too good to be true.

He had heard through the grapevine

That the grass was greener on the other side,

And because he was still wet behind the ears,

And always had his head in the clouds,

He took a shot in the dark.

That's when things took a turn for the worse.

Now, it's a good rule of thumb

That a half-baked idea will always make you sick.

Unfortunately, he was a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

It went over his head that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,

And now it was back to the drawing board for him.

He had grabbed life by the horns,

I can't blame him for trying;

But now he's got his foot in his mouth

And his life is coming apart at the seams.
