Shaving to get rid of unwanted hair is the easiest method of hair removal but avoiding shaving bumps sometimes makes you wonder if you made the right choice. You can have smooth legs without itchy, red shaving bumps if you follow these tips.
Shaving bumps are due to ingrown hairs that happen because of not removing dead skin that forms on your legs. Not using a good razor is another reason why you get shaving bumps. Take care of these two problems and you will have smooth, bump-free legs.
Exfoliate daily! A hand-held loofah is a great way to get rid of dead skin and make your legs ready for shaving. After you rub the loofah on your legs, you will notice that they already feel so much smoother. Now all you need to do is remove the hair. Regular exfoliating will ensure you get an even better shave because all you will be shaving is hair not the dead skin that accumulates.
Another way to get exfoliate is to use a cleanser like St. Ive's Apricot exfoliating cleanser. This skin cleanser comes in formulas made for sensitive skin also. You can buy the body wash that is made for exfoliating also. Make sure it has the same grainy consistency as the skin cleanser does. Apply it with a body sponge or your hands and massage it into your skin. Not only does this remove the dead skin but it really invigorates your legs. Rinse it off well and you are ready to shave.
Make sure you use a good razor. By good I mean quality. Use at least a triple blade razor and the ones that are surrounded by a comfort padding are great. If you use a cheap razor you will get a cheap shave. A razor that stays sharp enough to get rid of even coarse hair is what you need. If the razor isn't sharp it will just irritate your skin and it won't do the job.
What you use to shave with is important also. Shaving cream is great but I found something that works even better. Hair conditioner not only will give you a better shave but it moisturizes your legs as you shave. Your legs are going to be like a baby's bottom after using conditioner on them.
When you are done shaving, dry the razor off. Another tip to make the blade last longer is to put a thin coating of Vaseline on it. Store the razor where it won't be getting wet until you use it again.
If you remember to prepare your skin for shaving you will get better results. Use a good quality razor and you will have smooth legs that last. No more shaving bumps!
