Adele Lumas is a fierce but troubled reporter, who is tracking the case of a child serial killer. When a mysterious but charming stranger named Nicholas finally gets her alone, Adele learns that a child close to her has gone missing. What happens next is a scene right out of her nightmares, and it's only going to get worse.

INT. ADELE'S KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS

Nicholas watches Adele prepare coffee.

ADELE
You're quite intimidating you know.

NICHOLAS
I am?

ADELE
You have this penetrating thing you do
with your eyes. I watched my
colleagues nearly buckle under the
weight of that stare.

NICHOLAS
And yet you seem completely unaffected.

She smiled. They both knew that wasn't true. She hands
him his cup of coffee.

ADELE
What can I say? I'm an ice princess.

He gives her a mock bow.

NICHOLAS
Your highness.

She gets lost in his eyes again.

NICHOLAS
You're beautiful.

ADELE
You're dangerous.

NICHOLAS
I'm not going to hurt you.

ADELE
Maybe I'm afraid I'm going to hurt you.

NICHOLAS
I'll risk it.

He draws her close and she seems powerless to stop it as
he bends closer for a kiss.

Before their lips meet the phone rings.

Adele stumbles back, out of the spell and unsettled.

ADELE
I'm sorry... it's probably important...

She snaps open her phone.

ADELE
Yes? Michael? What? Slow down.

MICHAEL (FROM PHONE)
She's gone. Addie, she's gone.


INT. HOLY SACRAMENT CHURCH - NIGHT

Adele rushes in to find Michael pacing in front of the
altar.

ADELE
Any news?

MICHAEL
None. I call the orphanage every ten
minutes and nothing has changed.

ADELE
Why couldn't they have wanted her,
Michael? How could anyone not?

MICHAEL
She's out there, Addie. She's out
there, and she's thinking she'll never
have a home, and everyone she loves
will leave her. She's just a child.

ADELE
It will be okay. They'll find her. We
just have to keep our wits about us and
be patient -

He gives her a hard stare.

MICHAEL
This is different, Addie, and you know
it. She's not just a runaway, she's
prey.

Adele folds him into an embrace, as terrified as he is.


EXT. FOREST - NIGHT

We are in the woods under the tangle of trees. Grass
crunches under our feet as we race the familiar path.

In the distance a wolf howls and a child screams.

We fly through the brush and toward the clearing, where a
figure in a long black cloak is hunched over.

ADELE
Dani!

The figure stands to full height and turns to find Adele
standing on the
