Unlocking the myth of hypnotic communication

The truth about why you do the things you do

The role of the subconscious mind in behavior modification

Ever wonder why it is that you do the things you do when you know better? On a conscious level, you have made the commitment to lose the weight, save the money, buckle down and study, etc., but somehow it gets away from you anyway. Why is that happening over and over again? Because you did not give those set of instructions to your operating system, which is really in charge of what you actually do, that's why.

Your operating system is your subconscious mind and your software is the thoughts and emotions you feed it daily. Your subconscious mind is in charge of you and what you ultimately end up doing. If you want to make lasting changes you must modify or delete the old instructions and add new ones.

So lets look at how that actually works. Your subconscious mind is the seat of emotion. It's language is in pictures and metaphors. It is an association-making mechanism and it's job is to keep you safe. It makes no judgments about the "software" you load, it merely carries out instructions. Wow! How interesting that the very mechanism for keeping you safe would be causing you to stumble, and sabotage you that way.

In order to understand how this sabotaging process works, you will need to educate yourself on a few simple concepts. Once you learn how and why the role of the subconscious mind affects your behavior, you can act on that understanding and experience changes quickly and easily.

It is important to be aware of what you are feeding your subconscious mind in the words you speak and in the thoughts you think. The old expression, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" could not be further from the truth! In reality, our words are seeds that grow in the fertile soil of the mind as we replay them over and over again.

Consider this example, think about the last time you faced a challenge, the public speech, the first day on the job, a school play you were in as a child, etc. The minute you remember that you stumbled during that challenging incident from your past, or fear that you will stumble in the present moment, it will likely bring to mind a statement you heard in your past that plays all over again. Dad always said, "I was never any good at spelling", the third grade teacher who asked someone else to read aloud because the words were, "too difficult for you" and the list goes on and on. These statements, though only words, formed belief systems that are emotionally linked and become literally tucked away in your body. At the time these statements were made you decided or accepted the words as fact, you believed them, and now those beliefs become your marching orders.

You will not likely put yourself in another situation that is remotely similar to the situations where those derogatory words from the past were spoken, because it does not feel safe. If you do, it will cause a good deal of anxiety and stress. Remember, the subconscious mind is an association-making mechanism. While you may not be aware of the association in the present to an incident and associated belief from the past, your subconscious mind is.

Sometimes you will feel anxious but perhaps not be able to put your finger on why you feel the way you do. Trust that your body is communicating that there is something that needs clearing from within to shed that feeling and feel better. You can find out what that association, and the belief that keeps you stuck at the conscious level, is in hypnosis. Once you find the faulty belief you can either replace it or negotiate a new solution at the subconscious level with the help of a good Hypnotherapist. Consider the following example of a client who changed her life by becoming aware of the conflict within and by renegotiating the marching orders in her subconscious mind.

Gloria was a beautiful teenage girl. One day a friend remarked to her that it is so obvious that the boys loved to be around her because she was so beautiful. "Doesn't that make you scared?" Gloria's friend asked. Gloria had never given it any thought and inquisitively asked why she would say that. Her friend replied, "Because it must be scary to never know if you are being loved for your looks or for who you really are, I mean your looks won't last forever. Aren't you afraid of being dumped as soon as your looks change, what if you get in an accident or something?"

Not surprisingly, today as a middle-aged woman, Gloria presented as a 235 pound woman with a pretty face. When she came for hypnosis she discovered that her weight was serving as a protective measure to sort out who really loved her for who she was, so that when she did fall in love, it would be safe being with a man who wouldn't likely dump her.

This is how the subconscious mind protects. It doesn't make any judgments about the instructions given, it just carries out it's marching orders. Since Gloria did not consciously plan this course of action, she needed to renegotiate a more appropriate way to keep her safe at the subconscious level. She chose a new way that would not sabotage her but still keep her safe. She changed the way her subconscious mind solved the problem affecting her appearance to keep, in her words, "the shallow-minded men away."

The reason Gloria had always failed to lose weight was not a matter of willpower after all, but a conflict between the conscious and the subconscious mind. It all started with the words spoken in her past and presented in her physical body as extra weight. Remember that whenever there is a conflict between the conscious and the subconscious mind, the subconscious always wins. So whenever your body starts communicating to you through feelings and sensations, such as that "gut feeling," anxiety, or stress, etc., trust that there is an important message waiting and an opportunity to resolve it through hypnosis.

If you have an issue that is sabotaging your life, don't keep putting off the chance to learn the belief system running within that needs to be modified. You can't change a problem you aren't aware of and you can't modify the situation you aren't willing to feel. In hypnosis, you can become aware of what the issue is, and with the right Hypnotherapist, you will be successful at dealing with the emotions that arises in confronting those beliefs. In the end, the subconscious mind might carry out your instructions but you can now be actively in charge of the software you are running.
