Your attitude to your goal determines whether you are to succeed or not. Some people set their goal simply by writing it down on a piece of paper, or just storing it somewhere in their memory. They usually end up with failure because they don't treat their goal seriously. Your chance of success, or failure, is tied to your attitude: whether you are serious about your goal. So how can you change your attitude from casual to serious? Write a resolution diary. This article will tell you how to do it.
Write Your Goal Statement
Writing a specific goal statement is an important step in achieving your goal. If you goal is to lose weight, don't just say "I want to lose my weight." This is too generic. Before long, it will lose its originality and importance. Besides, the goal is not measurable in any sense. You can't tell whether you have achieved your goal with such a statement. There is a need to rephrase the statement in more specific and measurable terms. A better version would be "I want to reduce 20 pounds by August." Now you can easily answer the what and when questions with a specific goal statement.
Find out Why
Having a specific goal statement is only the first step of your resolution diary. The next step comes to asking yourself why the goal is so important to you. There is a reason for every goal. Take weight loss as an example. Your reason for it may be wanting to be healthier or looking more attractive. If these are not your reasons for losing your weight, what's it? Keep thinking and writing until you are able to come up with a reason that resonates and connects with you. If you can justify your goal with a reason, you will realize how important they are to you. Once you know your goal's importance, your attitude to achieving it will be different. Remember that attitude is the determinant of success or failure.
How to Act on Your Goal
Writing your goal statement and the reason for your goal are just groundwork. What really takes you from imagination to achievement is action. Take weight loss again as an example. There are sure dozens of ways to achieve it: taking pills, doing exercise, and eating healthier, to name a few. While it seems exciting to try out all of the methods at the beginning, this could be exhausting because that means you have to change your habit drastically. A gradual change is recommended: incorporate daily habit changes into your life and write them down in your resolution diary. Keep writing as a daily habit, and soon you will discover that writing strengthens your will and brings you to success.
