My birthday just came and went away, like any other day of the week. Still, the fact remains that I was born on June 25, 1956, the very day Elvis Presley made his debut. Then, fifty-three years to that day, Michael Jackson passed away and Farrah Faucet too. Due to these facts of history, the day I was born will be forever linked to a movie star, the King of Pop as well as the King of Rock and Roll. That's why I think my birthday should finally be set in stone for all those forgetful souls to whom I gave birth so long ago. Otherwise, my birthday will continue to be just another day of the week to my kids who think birthdays are, "all about me." Besides, I think it's high time someone treated me like a celebrity, at least on June 25th.
What is it about grown adult kids with sound bodies and minds that make them forget the birthday of the very one who delivered them and sacrificed half her life for them? Is it due to self absorption issues? Could it be that I give them the wrong impression every time I say, "That's okay, I don't need another birthday anyway?" It's a huge issue for me, because you see, in spite of my senile mind, the days they were born are dates that will live in infamy. Because of me, they might as well be celebrities. In fact, August 27th, May 15th and March 4th are set in stone even though I'm getting old. Still, when I die, who's going to remember the day they arrived in life?

1. Here's the rude truth: Birthdays, holidays and other special events are not all about you.
I know it might be hard to believe, considering all those lavish birthday parities your mom threw for you, but it's true. You are not the only one who has a birthday or likes to receive a gift now and then. In fact, in spite of the fact that your mom made you feel like a celebrity on your birthday and every holiday, the truth is that heaven, earth and the universe does not revolve around you, even though that's what they seem to do. You are not a celebrity to anyone but your mommy, and since no one will ever celebrate your birthday the way she still does, it might be nice if you choose to memorize her birthday too. Just go out on a limb once a year to buy her a gift. After that, ask not what she can do for you, but what you could do to make her feel like royalty for a change. Anything less for the one who gave birth to you would make you look just a bit narcissistic.
2. Don't wait until
