Demons who do not love anyone and are completely selfish are the main feature of the Disgaea series, though for the most part, that does change towards the end of each game. In addition, weirdness is also a part of the game and adds to the zany humour that Disgaea features. Not only are there Prinnies (penguin like creatures) who explode when thrown, but there are also demons and robots.
Most of the game's humour centres around the interactions between the various characters during the game's cutscenes. All of their personalities play off each other very well. It really is what helps to make the game and indeed the entire series such classics. The gameplay does also help though because no other game allows you to create characters as strong as the ones featured in this series. It's quite ludicrous when it's thought about.
An introduction to Thursday:
Thursday is a member of the crew with Gordon and Jennifer sent to the netherworld to try and help prevent an invasion of Earth. Thursday isn't human or even a living being. He's a robot and Jennifer created him when she was young. He isn't just an ordinary robot either because he is sentient and can make his own decisions. He can even talk. It reflects well on Jennifer's skills as a scientist and her intelligence that she was able to create a machine such as Thursday at such an early age.
Thursday as a character fits in perfectly with the rest of the characters of Disgaea and his personality adds to quite a bit of the humour. Like Gordon, Thursday seems to care a lot about justice being served. He can also be very sarcastic and does speak with 'beeps' at times. He is also rather good at solving problems, partly due to his robotic and calm nature.
Thursday along with Gordon and Jennifer join Laharl and his companions when they discover that the netherworld isn't a threat to Earth's safety. So, they set out with Laharl and his companions to help the netherworld and also try to save Earth at the same time.
Thursday as a playable character:
It's necessary to outfit Thursday with the best equipment possible because he just won't reach the same level of power as they will at the end of the game. Every character except Thursday can be reincarnated/transimigrated which basically provides a bonus to their base statistics and resets their level counter at one. Seeing as Thursday cannot reincarnate, his base statistics will never be as high as what the other character's statistics can be. Base statistics basically determine how many points a character gains for each level up and over the course of 9,999 levels, it's easy to imagine how big an impact it will have.
