the current state of your career field and where you live. Sadly, the part of the world you live in may not necessarily cater to a specific career field. This is perhaps one of the most essential steps in regards to job security at a company let alone the company you work for.
There are plenty of examples on how you can find yourself getting laid off:
Example One:
While my uncle is now working for a small company that does graphic design. In the past, he was a programmer for this one company. The guy has been working there for at least seven to eight years. In the last few years, the company was bought out by another one. The other company immediately outsourced the jobs to India. Because of this, my uncle got laid off. In this respect, there was no job security at that company.
Example Two:
My mother was in the same situation as my uncle. However, she was outright laid off. Her job was immediately outsourced to India. The company she worked for was not bought out by another one.
Example Three:
I have a friend with a master's in business and a bachelor's in statistics. In short, the guy is smart and has all of these qualifications. Sadly, he decided to move to a certain state. Unfortunately, the economic and social growth is pretty stagnant for the most part. In short, the job market in that state sucks.
Even with a master's degree, it is very difficult to find another job in the state. With one job, my friend was laid off. He found another job. After several months, he got laid off from that job. Those that had worked under him ended up taking between a five to fifteen percent pay cut.
Example Four:
You could get a job that pays at least $50,000 a year. By some unfortunate stroke of fate, you could get laid off from your job. You could find another job that ends up paying about $20,000 or $35,000 a year. Sadly, you could also find yourself laid off and finding another job that pays much less. Or, you may end up finding a completely different job for the most part.
Example Five:
Say that you are working for a nonprofit company there are a bunch of ways that you could end up getting laid off. In one scenario, the state of the economy has caused people to donate less. There is less food, clothes, toys, and money to donate to these various causes as a result. In another scenario, something could happen which could hurt donations from sponsors.
Overall:
There are many different cases and scenarios where you do not have job security. Sadly, it does not matter what company you work for. You can possibly find yourself standing in the unemployment line. You could be working for a very prosperous company in this respect and you end up getting laid off. A company could outsource to a different country and you can find yourself getting laid off. Overall, there is no such thing as job security at a company. Be prepared for the possibility that you could get laid off. Think about the possibility that you may have to change careers, that you may have to take a job that pays less, that you could on the unemployment line for a good amount of time, or take a job in a completely different career.
