The Humane Society, compassion or power?
It really depends on who you mean when you say Humane Society. Is it the shelter down the street the kind seen in thousands of neighborhoods around the country? Or is it this one?
The Humane Society of the United States
Now isn't that an impressive title. In donating to them you might think that you are covering all needy local Animal Shelters that have Humane Society in their name right? It's like a one stop place to help all the animals in need of medical care and new homes instead donating to this group and that group. How convenient is that?
Well dear ones, well intentioned ones, nothing could possibly be further from the truth. This is one of the biggest and most powerful animal rights organizations in the world. So powerful are they that they can squelch negative stories about themselves on the evening news or even U-Tube. They are all about power and boy do they have it!
While they use adorable faced puppies and kittens or starving dogs and sick cats on the advertisements, not one single dime of their money goes to house, feed, treat or even transport an animal where they can get help. They operate no shelters nor do they support shelters, in fact they actively campaign against no kill shelters. With their money they could support every struggling shelter and rescue organization in this country with money left over for low cost or free spay and neuter programs.
Instead they are a multinational animal rights group that spends millions lobbying against farmer and dairies, medical research facilities, hard working and devoted breeders, zoos, circuses, rodeos, horse and dog races and they spend a great deal of time vilifying hunters.
Their President a Mr. Wayne Parcelle who is a strict vegan, wants to reduce and eventual end the American consumption of meat, eggs and dairy products. Ever seen his ads showing bacon and eggs with the caption Breakfast of Cruelty?
Most people just don't know the difference between an animal rights group and an animal welfare group. The difference sets those groups worlds apart.
An Animal Welfare groups works towards ending cruelty to animals and providing relief for those animals. They take in abandoned animals, strays; they treat animals whose owners cannot afford medical care for their pets. They offer low cost spay, neuter and vaccination clinics in low income areas. Your local animal shelter or Humane Society falls under that category
