tinkering and, through his alter-ego Iron Man, making the world a better place. Terence Howard as Colonel Rhodes, Stark's best friend and head of Weapons Development for the army is the perfect, responsible foil to the often erratic Iron Man. Howard's time on screen is fairly limited, but his character is key in tieing the parts of the story together. Gwyneth Paltrow is demurely brilliant as the long-serving Pepper who secretly holds a flame for her playboy employer, she is the only constant in Tony's routine of ever-changing women. Jeff Bridges puts his usual nice-guy persona on ice to pick up the role of Obadiah Stane, the backstabbing partner at Stark International, and his final scene with stark is a high-octane treat.
Though the movie certainly won't appeal to all people due to it's immersive comic history, but for fans of the comics and action films in general, it's an absolute gift of a film. Explosions, fights and gun-play are around every corner, as are the numerous Marvel Comics hints, such as the S.H.I.E.L.D. (that's Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division to the uninitiated) agent who keeps popping up as well as a certain Samuel L. Jackson cameo after the credits have rolled. If high-budget action or comics hit the right notes with you then this film is a must-see, eclipsing even the Spidermans and X-mens of the movie world.
