Imagine you're on vacation in the midst of a foreign tropical rain forest. You seen capuchins swinging from the branches above, and the call of a hawk searching for prey cuts through the afternoon humidity like a butter knife. The smell of your surroundings immediately alludes to its freshness and lack of urban intervention. A guide leads you further in, eventually spotting lowland gorillas straddling the fine line between being completely solitary and intermingling with avid conservationists. This moment is the purest you've ever experienced, and has been aptly dubbed an "ecotour" due to its vast appreciation of the land and all those that live on it.
How is it possible? How can this precise time in your life be so fulfilling and educational, without the glitz and glam of a resort-style spa or shopping plaza within walking distance? Since when did simplicity and letting the land entertain you become the idealized perception of a true 'home away from home' experience? Well, it's been evolving over a long period of time, we were just blind to it until now.
Ecotourism is on the rise for several reasons. More often than not, those individuals or groups that have taken the step to spend their free time in a region completely opposite to their accustomed way of life do it because of the love and passion they have for the land and all of the creatures who inhabit it.
With very little impact on and respect for the natural resources in any given ecological niche, subtle conservationists and environmentalists are able to experience and learn from a remote habitat without the unnecessary intervention from over-development or cultural impressions set forth by unknowingly inconsiderate outside factors. And by focusing on a few key elements, eco-related tours and vacations allow the impacted civilizations (whether human or animal) to continue on their everyday way of life without fear or anxiety over those there merely to observe rather than intervene.
One of the major attributions to ecotourism is its unparallel devotion to sticking closely with the concept of a broad observation technique. With this focus a high priority, as well as the support and assistance from local and state agencies established to protect the environments visited, ecotours are able to take place in just about every reachable corner of a culturally diverse and sparcely populated area, with the locals only ever aware of their watchers from a far and uninterrupted stance.
