A guide to the creature stage in Spore (PC)

In the previous stage, you created your species that began their life as nothing more than a microbial life form. You controlled them as they navigated the wild oceans of the planet you chose to play on and as they tried to find food and also try to prevent themselves from being eaten by the various predators that inhabited the oceans.

After they'd braved the ocean for many years and thrived, they grew in size and eventually, they evolved so that they could move from the oceans to the land of the planet they live on. It's a whole new frontier and the gameplay is different from what was featured in the cell stage. For starters, it's not played from the top-down perspective.

Now then, the creature stage is still about eating other animals or finding plants to eat. It's also still about finding creature parts that you can use to evolve/customise your species. So, as soon as you grow legs and have a bigger brain, you head to the surface with a whole new place to explore. You will have some friends with you of your own species, but there won't be many at all. So, after the cutscene has finished, you will be in control of one member of your species like you were before in the cell stage.

When you first begin the stage after the cutscene, you will find yourself by the nest of your species. At the bottom left of your screen is a mini-map showing the nesting locations etc. of other species that live on the planet. In the middle of the screen above the progress bar, you'll find an overview of your species' abilities and also the controls for selecting whether you're hostile or friendly towards the other creatures that you will encounter. You see, you can either befriend them or attack them and wipe the species from the planet.

So, your goal is to collect creature parts and to either exterminate other races by preying on them or make sure that you befriend some of them. Like in the previous stage, you can also mate with other members of your species to upgrade/customise them further. As you advance through the creature stage, you will find that the brain of your species keeps getting bigger and bigger, which allows for new interactions and abilities alongside allowing other creatures to accompany you up a total of three. The creatures that accompany you don't have to be from the same species either. They can be from another you've befriended.

Again, the stage isn't too difficult to complete. You just need to keep exterminating other species or befriending them while upgrading your creature and finding new parts to progress. There's nothing complex about it.
