Poetry: What I wish I could tell my father

by Chris Earl

Created on: July 03, 2009   Last Updated: February 09, 2011

I stood guard along the palisade of your reputation.

Your Army career must be our focus.

Every excuse has been offered for your desertion.

Parasitic kids and a overbearing wife,

Are too much for a man to endure.

The defense I put up has turned to burning rage.

I did not weep at your painful, slow  passing.

Your tiny corner in hell is not nearly hot enough,

It is dwarfed by the flames that consume my heart.
