Bringing a child into this world is a great responsibility. It takes great pain, enduring, time, effort and money to raise a child. Having a child early has an advantage in terms of health. This is so because women who tend to delay pregnancy are known to have difficulties from conceiving to delivery. However, it is not advisable to have a baby in the early 20's as well. Here are the reasons why.
Firstly, you need to be mature enough to shoulder such a great responsibility. It is not as easy like some women think it is. Firstly, a child is going to depend on you for at least sixteen to twenty years. You have the responsibility to instill good values, responsibilities and behavior into the child to prepare the child to face the world out there. You have to ask the question to yourself if you are ready for such a great responsibility. In your early 20s how much experience do you have in being responsible! You are still learning by trial and error! Living is one thing and leading another soul to live is quite another. A child will pick up lots from the parents. Hence, you as a parent need to be well prepared.
Secondly, are you financially independent? A child has basic needs and you need to be able to afford in order to bring up the child in a healthy manner. Some parents are just starting out with their careers in their 20's and it takes time for them to get stable employment. Some parents could be starting out as entrepreneurs and starting their own businesses in their 20's. These businesses would take up so much time to actually tender to a child's needs. Therefore, it would be viable to wait till late 20's to have a child where you would be more or less settled financially or would have racked up sufficient savings to care for your child.
Second point also directs to the time factor. Do you have enough time for your child! In your early 20's you will be busy building your career and business. Therefore, you may need to constantly leave your child under someone else's care while you strive for your financial independence. You child needs the love, care, attention and constant affirmations from parents. To provide these, you need to spend time with the child.
In conclusion, you need to be prepared to deal with the responsibility that comes with a child. You need to have a purpose in bringing a child into this world. That purpose should be novel and that novel purpose comes with a responsibility. Therefore, the best person to gauge whether you are ready for a child in you early 20's is yourself. If you feel you are ready, you probably are.
