Leaving
Leaving this time
Was the only choice I had,
When I looked in the mirror
I couldn't see myself
When I looked at our children,
I wondered what they saw
When they looked at me
And I was afraid that they
Didn't see me either because
I didn't know who I was
I was hiding behind so much
Guilt at who I had been and
I was so lost in shame of whom
I had become that I had forgotten
Who I wanted to be that I was ignoring
The person I had been meant to become
I had to leave you
So I could give our children
The mother they deserve
To be a good mother
I need to be a good person
