I think they are because I, myself, am a romantic. Romance gives you hope that love is out there especially when you are single. It's something everyone needs. There are really great romance movies out there like one I saw recently, "Nights in Rodanthe." It had a sad ending, but the point of the story is what you need to grasp. After watching romantic movies, it gives you hope, whereas, watching tragic movies, brings tears to your eyes, and more or less, feeling sad or miserable about your own life. For women who think men are scum, after watching a nice romantic movie, they probably start to think that there are men out there who want love just as badly as women. Tragic movies I avoid. Simply because it's depressing. Some movies have a mix of tragedy and romance, like Nights in Rodanthe. These kind that have a mix are ok because there's a point that is made. Comedy is always a good thing. Everyone loves a comedy especially when it makes them laugh until they cry. Comedy goes with romance, but can it mesh well with tragedy? Watching some tragic movies will make you want to jump off a bridge, but others just make you want to cry and be grateful for what you have. The movie, What Women Want; funny and romantic. Mel Gibson did a great job. The performance of a movie also depends on who's acting. Sometimes these movies have these actors who are not known for their work and the movie ends up being a disappointment. Movies with well known actors usually perform well and get great reviews. I don't think they make too many tragic comedy movies because I can't think of any and I watch ALOT of movies. I think romantic comedy movies does better just for that reason. Knocked Up is a great movie;. alot of humor and the couple ends up together. What's better than that? Another good one is Sleepless in Seattle with Tom Hanks. He's always trying to be funny in his movies and usually is! The Break UP is another good one. Vince Vaughn is fantastic. I think Jennifer Aniston played a more serious role, but great movie. Something about Mary was another great hit. I thought that was more comic than anything but the whole point of the story was tracking down a girl he had a thing for so I guess it balances out. My favorite kinds of movies are romantic comedies. You can get an impression of someone just by knowing what kind of movies they are into. A Walk to Remember and Here On Earth are good tragic movies. They aren't comical but then again should they be?
