Words Gone Wrong
How oft, how daft, our words and misperceptions.
We talk, then think and find they're deceptions.
We laugh too loud, we toss our head,
We think that something fun was said.
When suddenly we truly hear
The deafening sound of quiet in our ear
And know that now, too late has come
The moment we do want to run.
But wait! There is no way to go,
To dodge or swerve, to jump, no hole-
No place to hide our self-disgust,
Our understanding way too much.
We know what we have always said,
No place to hide (under no ones bed)
Did you understand those words you said
Could now be filled with so much dread?
For even those who would cavort,
Cannot, no longer give support.
For shame has entered now and here;
And you, my goodness! Are filled with fear.
Did you say the words out of love or hate?
Did you mean to sound so reprobate?
I cannot think, I am filled with mistrust,
Even the very words of solace are a must.
But cannot be found for they too are gone,
They linger in my mind, far too long.
There is nothing left to do nor say,
To keep the famished thoughts away.
Nor could there be another word
For loss and shame now understood.
