There was a knock at the Door
There came a knock, on yonder door
'Twas firm and loud, it brought me horror.
I live alone in these dark woods,
And share my place with all my goods.
So how be it possible this act is done?
I repeat myself, it should be no one.
Who would dare to trespass thus,
Toward the door, I held my cuss.
Who dare to now disturb my silence?
I thought, at first, to them violence.
And present him self from out the air,
I knew of no one who might dare.
I knew one alone, who'd challenge my peace,
Who'd walk up strong and strike with ease.
This one, he'd rap the wood to cause a clatter
So I would rise to see this matter.
I knew not the one who did this deed
And now I answered full with speed.
He stood his greatness large and tall
And I speak in earnest of it all.
He stood to claim his rightful place,
My heart did ache to see his face.
I wept, a bit, then surrendered full
Unto his fervent grip, his strength a bull.
And there I saw my only Son
Come back to me to be as one.
Much time had passed, some woes were wrought,
But patience, love and faith had taught
Us both to stop the pain, recalled
And forgive each other now to fall
Once more, deep set in each others arms
And feel the joy of pain discharged.
Until at last we laughed with glee and there he sat,
Yeah, stayed with me.
And now for days and years we spoke
About our love and how it broke.
He joined his hands with mine once more
And pledged his love, his face adored
By the loving caress of a Father-dear
Who in due time felt bliss so shear.
To know his Son, his beloved boy
Now as a man, so filled with joy.
His face not heavy nor blanked with sin
Where once a hatred did begin.
For in the eyes a light so pure
He once again was made secure
That love was gentle, love was wise,
Love had broken the disguise
Of one who would before just cover
The child-man, he did now discover.
For hearts that long to reconcile
May languish, true, for some great while.
Until the icy storm that words outcast
Do open up and change the past.
And seeing new, a love abides
No more can thoughtless words deride.
For now from debt to debt has come
The settling of this Man and Son.
