Short stories: Born on the 4th of July

"Wow, look at those fireworks." Doug smiled as he gazed upon the sight through the limitless monitors encompassing a whole wall. Each monitor depicted a section of the city where almost each one gave a bright tint of lightning blue.

"Fireworks? This isn't a damn light show." Charlene shouted through Doug's headset.
"Why not? It's my birthday! I love fireworks!" Doug replied sounding overly joyful.

"You call this fireworks? I call it a barbecue."
"Well, people used to celebrate 4th of July with picnics and barbecues."
"Whatever, we can celebrate later. We're kind of busy here."
"Whatever you say..."

Doug sat in front of a monitor three times the size of his skull. If he crushed his skull into a flat surface, he could probably fit nine of them inside the monitor. "How am I supposed to know?! Our bullets aren't doing any damage!"
"How about some more fireworks?"
"Stop it with the 4th of July bull, this isn't the day for it."
"But it is 4th of July and my birthday!"
"Oh my god, you're useless. I'll start my own fire."

Doug listened as Charlene shut off her headset. He watched as one of Charlene's men pulled a High-Power Exopiercer. A fade of blue light appeared in front of the weapon's barrel. Soon, it came into fruition and became visible from Doug's perspective from the monitor. The blue light suddenly burst and a blinding ray escaped the barrel which scorched through the giant's torso within a second and faded into a nearby apartment complex.

Doug tapped a few keys and the screen split in half with one depicting Charlene's battle with the giant and the apartment complex that was struck. Doug spectated as he saw parades of people in the neighborhood gather and stare at the gaping hole made by the piercer. The screen started to shake as he witnessed the complex began to collapse within itself. The parade of
