While it might not seem it at first, the hard drive is the most important part of a computer. That is when you're not thinking about speed at least. However, it is still relatively important where speed is concerned because a hard drive that is nearly full could bog the computer down so that it completes tasks more slowly than it normally would.
Now then, while technology is good and it's getting better all the time, it's still not perfect and infallible. It can break and when it does, the results aren't good. With regards to hard drives, information that's important to business or for your own personal use could be lost should the hard drive break. There are several ways to guard against it though. But first, while it should be obvious, it's important to talk about why it's important to backup your hard drive.
A failing hard drive could result in the loss of data if something isn't done quickly. Hard drive failiure can make you lose important information such as financial records, passwords, account details, business records, contact numbers and addresses of friends, writing/manuscripts and photos that you really enjoy. So, that should give a good indicator of why it's a good idea to try and prevent a hard drive from failing. There is one other reason why it's important to keep your hard drive in working order though and that is if a hard drive fails, it could crash your entire computer and prevent it from working until it's fixed or new parts are bought.
So, the first thing you can do is make sure you try and keep your computer protected from various spywares and viruses that can infect and infest your computer after getting into your system following a browsing session. The second task that you can do which is related to browsing and virus protection is to make sure you run the software that you have quite regulary and always keep it active while browsing.
Next, you could buy a zip drive. It's a small device that you 'plug' into, or if you prefer, connect to your PC or laptop. They are quite cheap to buy and have several gigabytes worth of space on them for you to store files. Another option related to this is to buy a DVD writer along with some burning software to copy the files onto a disc for safekeeping.
Another thing you can do is install a network if you have several computers. That way, you can freely copy files from one computer to another without worrying so much. Or you could get a second hard drive and put it in your computer if you don't have multiple PCs or laptops.
