Carl and Lorraine went to the small cottage for a weekend getaway. It was about a mile from the small town of Redemption City, Utah. They needed the time together to rekindle their love for each other. The couple had been having trouble in their marriage for two years. Two years ago, Carl had an affair with one of his nurses who work for him at his clinic. Lorraine accidentally found out about his affair when she decided to surprised him by taking him out for lunch. Carl and the nurse were having sex in his office; Lorraine had opened Carl's office door and she surprised them. Carl begged his wife to forgive him, so they decided to seek marriage counseling. On the advice of their marriage counselor, they need some time together alone.

It was a cold, snowy morning; the weather forecast was predicting more snow with the possibility of a blizzard. Carl had heard the weather prediction on his television. He went outside to chop extra wood for the fire to keep them warm. Lorraine had cooked some of her famous beef stew for their lunch. Suddenly, she heard a strange noise coming from the basement of the little cottage. She went to investigate where the noise was coming from. She grabs a flashlight off the counter, open the door to the basement, and begin to walk down the basement stairs. As she shined her flashlight around the basement, she noticed there was a strange chest sitting on a desk. She was quite curious about the writing on the outside of chest. The writings on the box were in Chinese with several skulls on the outside and on top, it had a face of Satan.

Carl had finished chopping wood for the fire; he brought the logs of wood inside of the house and lay them down on the floor. He was putting several logs on the fire, when he heard Lorraine walking upstairs from the basement. She walked in the room carrying the strange chest; she told her husband she had found it in the basement. Carl noticed the strange words on outside of the chest written in Chinese. He was a doctor who lived in Hong Cong, China for twenty-seven years. The words on the outside of the chest translate in English meaning "Beware of the evil forces in this box. He translated this to his wife, she started to laugh saying maybe their friends who they had rented the cottage from was playing a practical joke on them.

Later that evening Lorraine had just finished the dinner dishes, she walked in the living area where Carl was watching the latest weather report on the television.
