Snow falls on the silent wood.
No sound can be heard.
The snowflakes keep falling,
Caught up in a quiet, swirling dance,
Catching moonlight and throwing it back
In tiny flecks and flashes.
The trees sleep, the world sleeps,
But the snow continues to fall.
A soft, cottony white blanket
Covers the sleeping trees,
The sleeping earth.
The blanket fills the wood
With cold, silent moonlight
As the white face passes between clouds.
Although the earth is covered,
It shivers in the cold.
And the snow continues to fall.
No animal stirs in the silent, sleepy wood.
They are asleep in their holes,
Far away from the chill of the snowy blanket.
The evergreens bear their white burden in silence,
Their heavy boughs bend under the weight,
But still the world sleeps.
And the snow continues to fall.
No hiss of wind,
No toss of flakes by the air.
Tonight, even the wind sleeps.
The calm, still air holds the promise of more snow,
A promise it will not find hard to keep.
The silence and sleep continue.
And the snow continues to fall.

Poetry: Snow
Like the soft downy preening of a Mourning dove's wings,
it falls in the night while the night bird sings.
So softly it falls,
by Ethel Smith
White and fluffy,
soft yet hard,
it lays thick and cold
in your own backyard.
More flakes flutter down
to add to what's there,

SNOW
(WALKING ON A WINTER MORN)
I love walking on a snowy winter morning,
early, as the dawn breaks forth its light,
dazzling
Snow falls on the world
Time has come and gone
Life is frozen in ice
Immobile in time
Only silence remains.
Beneath the frozen
by Ron Tocknell
In cutting winds
The bare trees sway
The snowdrifts building higher
We've fuel enough
But for two days
Yet I'd give all to see
