are going to be several speakers at the occasion, shorter times may be warranted as the audience may feel they have information overload and become impatient with the presenters. Generally in the classroom setting a 5-7 minute presentation is about ideal. More than that and the audience can become impatient. If the presentation is for other audiences than classmates, it is important to have clear expectations of what is desired by the organization.
Step 5: Determine the presentation environment
Before any preparation begins for the presentation, the speaker must know what the level of technology will be in the facility. Without Promethean Board or Smart Board technology, or a basic projection system, it is impossible to prepare a power point presentation for the presentation. So it is essential to what equipment is available to be used. Also if the presentation is to a large group, it is important to assess what the system will be for microphones and amplification.
Step 6: Compile the content
Once the technical elements of giving the presentation are clear, it is then time to prepare the content. Do research if necessary and takes notes on the information that will appear on the slides. Keep in mind the amount of time it will take to go through each slide. For a 10 slide presentation, usually 5-7 minutes is the common length necessary to fill the allotted time requirements.
Step 7: Create the visual element of the presentation
Once the information has been compiled, the next step is to create the presentation. It is important when preparing slide shows for a presentation to include graphics and illustrations. Statistics are often best presented in graph form. Remember that most people do not enjoy having a speaker read long passages of slide shows to them. It is best to prepare bulleted or numbered content that are stated in a brief format. Make sure that the print used is of a size and color that are easily readable from the audience. Beware of placing white print on light colors such as a yellow background, or a photo that will mask some of the letters of the print on the slides.
Step 8: Prepare the verbal component of the presentation
Once the visual component of the presentation is finalized, then prepare the content that will be spoken verbally to the group. An audience wants to believe that the speaker is an authority on the topic. If the speaker is a true authority, then the speaker does not read directly off the power point slides
